Judo & Jiu-Jitsu Instruction for Children

We offer Judo and Jiu-Jitsu classes for girls and boys, ages 4 & up.

Your Child has Good Manners & Shows Respect!

That’s what people will say when your child participates in our program. Not only will he learn respect for others and courtesy, he will make improvements in:

  • School grades
  • Self-discipline and self-esteem
  • Listening skills
  • Behavior at home
  • Fitness, coordination and flexibility
  • Physical awareness and abilities that will help him in any athletic activity.

In addition to receiving Judo and Jiu-Jitsu instruction, each class will cover lessons about topics such as:

  • Dealing with bullies and peer pressure
  • The value and importance of telling the truth
  • Good sportsmanship
  • Setting and achieving goals
  • Showing respect for others and oneself.

Give your Child the Gift of Confidence

Judo & Jiu-Jitsu training teaches children practical, real-world self-protection skills that will give them more confidence in difficult situations. Kids learn how to effectively deal with bullies and this strengthens their self image.

Judo & Jiu-Jitsu training will improve their physical coordination, agility, and strength. And because these martial arts are based on leverage and technique, students of any size can learn to deal appropriately with bigger, stronger individuals.

Last year we moved across town.  It was an especially difficult transition for our son who missed his old friends and neighborhood tremendously.  His grades began to fall and he was depressed.  His best friend attended Timberline Judo Club and invited him to join.

Within a month he had earned his first medal at a tournament.  He found an activity that really fit for him and his life changed. He developed more friendships and his grades improved. His confidence increased and his overall outlook on life became more positive.  We’re especially grateful for the wonderful  & awesome coaches who have trained him.   I would highly recommend Timberline Judo to help build character, discipline and friendships for your children.

 Improve Self-control

Harai_goshiAt the other end of the spectrum are the children who are very aggressive and have little self-control .  These children are often hard to handle at home and at school. They can have difficulty controlling their own emotions and often times bully other children.

Judo and Jiu-Jitsu training helps aggressive children by providing a structured environment to improve self-discipline and an outlet for their energy. These martial arts teach respect for self, respect for others, and self-control.  Our program also offers a supportive team environment where kids can learn to interact with each other in a positive way.

 The Timberline Difference

KellenWe help children develop self-confidence and self-esteem skills. We teach children how to respond to bullies, deal with peer pressure, and protect themselves in dangerous situations.  Our program focuses on building self-reliance, yet emphasizes teamwork.  The mental and physical challenges of  our program encourage kids to grow in ways that improve all aspects of their lives.

We encourage and reward outstanding behavior on and off the mat. We highlight students who are improving or achieving top grades in school.

 Effective Self-protection

Similar to Karate and Tae Kwon Do, Judo & Jiu-Jitsu teach self-defense techniques and use colored belts for promotional ranks. Judo & Jiu Jitsu are different from other martial arts, however, in that there are no hitting or kicking techniques used

Instead, Judo & Jiu-Jitsu teach a nonviolent way to deal with aggression. Judo & Jiu-Jitsu incorporate throwing skills, takedowns, grappling techniques and submission holds so that students learn to defend themselves on their feet and on the ground.

Judo & Jiu-Jitsu are extremely effective in assault or attack situations because the vast majority of these incidents wind up on the ground. These martial arts teach a student to effectively defend herself in this position, move her body to escape a threatening situation, and turn this position to her advantage.

 No Child Sits the Bench!

Yoko_shihoDifferent from many mainstream sports like football, baseball, or basketball, athletic ability does not determine a student’s level of participation in class. In other sports, the less talented athletes often wind up sitting on the bench or playing less desirable positions -- i.e., right field.

In our program, each student will make progress at a different rate, but all children will participate in all the drills and training activities during every practice. This gives your child a positive environment for self-paced development.  Many children who struggle in other sports, find themselves to be quite talented at Judo and Jiu-Jitsu.
